Monkey Play

We took a walk around Penang's Botanical Gardens yesterday. Kyle as usual was very fascinated with the monkeys. He stood around watching a bunch of them for ten minutes before I could pull him away to show him my favourite tree, the Canonball. I'll admit, them monkeys are really cute, but I've seen them jump and attack people more than a few times in my life...enough to put me off them forever.

So there we were, walking along, minding our own business when we see another pack playing on the path ahead of us. I grab Kyle's sleeve and tell him we've got to be careful. Kyle pooh-poohs the idea of being careful with them tiny monsters, Saturday's encounter with The-Monkey-Who-Snarled-Ferociously-At-Him seemed to have disappeared from memory...

I gulped nervously as we strolled along. We walked into the middle of the pack, and two of them snarled at us and then attacked. All hell broke loose. Kyle gave a yell, then ran off. The two monkeys ran after him. I kinda stood there, hoping that the others would run off after him too, and in any case, they were so close on his tail, I wasn't about to chase after monkeys, chasing after Kyle.

Two more tried to attack me. I warded them off with my pink water bottle. They scampered around me trying to find open spots on my legs to attack, and it must have been around then Kyle realised I wasn't anywhere near him and turned around and yelled "Run over here!"

I waved my bottle around some more and they finally moved away, giving me enough space to not-so-happily hop to where Kyle was. He was yelling and stamping his foot at his two furry assailants hoping they'd run off. I finally found my way to where he was...safely, and we hurriedly walked away before they could come after us again.

I started laughing hysterically at the fact that when the monkeys attacked, Kyle ran off and left me to fend for myself. In his defense, he said he thought I was right behind him when he ran off. But hrmph, now I know, when the furry things attack, I'm on my own.
